A Brief Note: The Institution is written entirely from the perspective of Second Tier development -- secular enlightenment -- and can be confusing to those who have not yet reached that level of development. One-Trick Ponies is not written from a Second Tier perspective but introduces the concept of Second Tier thinking. As a consequence, it is recommended that uninitiated readers complete One-Trick Ponies before reading The Institution.
The Institution
What did the citizens of a collapsing civilization think about and talk about when it was going down? What might they have done to save themselves from disaster and why didn't they do it? The setting for "The Institution" is British Columbia and Washington State post-ecological collapse. The story is a fictional exploration of the global catastrophes that are currently mounting and the ramifications surrounding them. It is an observation of where we are in the life of a civilization and the reasons we aren't addressing what should be obvious to all of us. If we are to envision another way, the fundamental beliefs on which western civilization is based must be questioned. Fulfilling our human potential means discovering those aspects of civilization that make us higher quality beings. All of the knowledge to aid us in a successful transition currently exists. What are the individual responsibilities of intelligent human beings to seek this knowledge? What part will you play?
Terra Dime (rhymes with paradigm) is the pen name of an author who has woven together some of the best thoughts on the human predicament. She has chosen to do so in a fictional format in order to introduce this critical issue to an audience that might not be inclined to read non-fiction.
Beware! We live a time when nothing should be sacred except the health of the planet. Many sacred cows are "slaughtered" in this book.

And now the prequel: One-Trick Ponies
From the back cover:
"One-Trick Ponies" features a cast of characters that will be familiar to the aware reader. A clueless developer, single-minded planner, dim-witted politician, belligerent boss, and an unconscious ex or two duke it out in a land-use showdown that is both amusing and disturbing. The setting for this face-off is Sweetwater, Oregon -- a heretofore charming city adjacent to 30,000 acres of prime land. Suburban sprawl pitted against traditional neighborhood. Mindless reactionary dittoheads versus systemic thinkers. Tension between individuals who range the full spectrum of human development prompts a larger question: Is any built environment that perpetuates the status quo a dead-end?
The book's forays into urban design were inspired by the work of Andres Duany and James Howard Kunstler. Musings on human potential will resonate with fans of Abraham Maslow, Clare W. Graves, and Eckhart Tolle, "One-Trick Ponies" is a prequel to the recently-released title "The Institution" -- part of The No Mind Left Behind Series. As in "The Institution," the Jerome Raines character and his insight feature prominently.
